Obtaining Slow Beam Spills at the Ssc Collider
نویسنده
چکیده
There is substantial interest in providing slow-spill external proton beams in parallel with “interaction running” at the 20 TeV SSC collider. The proposal is to cause a flux of particles to impinge on a target consisting of a bent crystal extraction ‘channel.13 Additionally, a slow spill onto a conventional internal target could be used as a source of secondary beams for physics or test purposes and might also be used for B-physics as proposed for HERA. The “natural” beam loss rates from elastic and diffractive beam gas scattering and IP collisions are not sufficient to provide suitably intense external proton beams. The presently favored scheme for providing sufficient spill intensity is to increase the emittance of the beam via rf noise excitation of the longitudinal synchrotron oscillations.‘3

The Superconducting Super Collider Project*
The elementary particle physics community in the United States is proposing the construction of a very high energy, high luminosity, proton-proton collider called the Superconducting Super Collider1 (SSC) The proposed SSC has a maximum energy of 20 TeV per beam, yielding a total energy of 40 TeV; and a maximum luminosity of 1033~m-2s-1. The design is based upon the use of 6.6 Tesla superconduct...

We report in this paper results from an effort to develop a muon trigger counter system for SDC, a general-purpose detector proposed for the Superconducting Super Collider (SSC). Although SSC has been terminated, these results may find application in other collider experiments . As indicated in Fig. 1, the SDC detector [1] consists of three major subsystems : an inner tracker immersed in a sole...

The high luminosity Interaction Regions (IRs) are an important part of the lattice in colliding beam machines. The performance of the collider may depend significantly on the particular design of the IRs. In this paper we discuss the general principles of IR design and apply these principles to the design of the Superconducting Super Collider Interaction Regions.

The Fermilab Tevatron will be the world’s highest energy hadron collider until the LHC is commissioned, it has the world’s highest energy fixed target beams, and Fermilab will be the leading high energy physics laboratory in the US for the foreseeable future. Following the demise of the SSC, a number of possible upgrades to the Tevatron complex, beyond construction of the Main Injector, are bei...
متن کاملPhysics at a Photon Collider
The Photon Collider option of a Linear Collider (LC) is based on laser photon back-scattering on high energy electrons. The maximum photon energy is 205 GeV for a laser with λ = 1.06μm and an electron beam energy of 250 GeV. A high degree of polarisation with opposite helicities of the electron and the laser photon is crucial for obtaining a peaked spectrum of high energy polarised photons clos...
